Oasis, a Haven for Women and Children

The mission of Oasis is to change the lives of women and children by breaking the cycle of poverty through compassionate programs designed to feed, clothe, educate, and empower women and children in need. Oasis has helped over 700 women and children, served 67,000 meals, and gave 2,226 women health and wellness assessments by social workers. Oasis founders, Ann Wagner and Christine DeVita Breit, opened their doors at 320 Main Street in 1997, to provide meal services to poor women and children. At that time, women and children living in poverty in Paterson, New Jersey did not have access to a soup kitchen for a daily hot meal. By 2007, they had outgrown the church basement they occupied and initiated a capital campaign to fund a new building capable of housing their vastly expanded programs, while providing the opportunity for future growth. Soon after, they moved into the beautiful building which they now occupy at 59 Mill Street, allowing their capacity to grow and meet the needs of women and children in their community.
