Irvington
Irvington, with a population of 61,323 over 2.93 square miles, makes it the 16th largest city in New Jersey. Irvington is located in Essex County and is just west of one of New Jersey’s busiest cities, Newark.
And with one of the state’s busiest cities right next door, many would think that Irvington would be thriving. However, everything is not perfect in Irvington, as 23% of the population is under the poverty line and the crime rate being higher than 92% of the state’s cities and towns of all sizes.. The median income is $40,338 and the per capita income is $20,806 compared to America’s median income is $57,652 and the per capita income being $31,177. With high levels of poverty and high crime rates, people turn to gang activity and drugs.
And because of these circumstances, a lot of these children cannot afford a proper education. However, there is a way to fix this problem: the destruction of the poverty cycle. There is only one way to break it, and that is through education. And with just over a quarter of the population (15,000+) being 17 or under, education is a big part of breaking the poverty cycle.
That’s why My Fine Mind is partnering with Turning Point Community Services to truly help make a difference on a community and personal level. If you would like to help the children in Irvington, donate now.
Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
The Annual Month of Giving is a program held by My Fine Mind every month. Each month there is a certain goal set by My Fine Mind in order to buy and ship school supplies to locations that have suffered from natural disasters. This program allows for My Fine Mind to collect donations for families in urgent need of school supplies. Any form of donation is greatly appreciated.
